ALL LASER PATIENTS MUST HAVE THEIR AREAS SHAVED/TRIMMED PRIOR TO LASER SESSION. THE LONG THE HAIR ON SKIN THE MORE PAINFUL IT IS AND LESS RESULTS.

When it comes to laser hair removal machines you will find many options in Pakistan. The four most common types of lasers found in our dermatology clinics here in Pakistan are:

  1. IPL (intense-pulsed light) which is not a laser technically
  2. Alexandrite Laser
  3. Diode Laser
  4. Nd:YAG Laser

Intense pulsed light IPL is the cheapest laser you can get in the market and it is also probably the worst to do a laser hair removal with in Pakistani/Indian skin type. It can leave you with hyperpigmentation while removing hairs. It is also the reason why so many people are scared to get a laser done because someone they know had an IPL done on them thinking it was laser and had a side-effect from it. You should never get an IPL done for a laser hair removal.

Alexandrite Laser This laser type was introduced for patients having lighter skin tone with dark hair, preferably the western skin type. Side-effects may include skin burn and hyperpigmentation. Very precise settings are required for this laser to be effective in our Pakistani skin-type.

Diode Laser Diode is considerably newer technique. It was developed to treat large body areas like chest or abdomen but it doesn't have enough literature or data in our Pakistani skin type to be considered a safe laser.

Nd:YAG Laser Nd:YAG laser is the best hair removal laser system for our Pakistani/Indian skin type and has almost no side effects. It is the system on which most of the studies were done for testing our Pakistani skin tone type. We at SKINFUDGE use the best Nd:YAG Candela GentleYAG Laser System, made in USA.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Is Nd:Yag laser hair removal safe?  Yes, it is absolutely safe and done around the world on Pakistani/Indian skin types. Candela Gentle YAG is also the same laser system used in John Hopkins, University of Michigan and UCLA Medical Center for Asian skin type.
  2. Is Nd:YAG laser hair removal painful? We use numbing creams and the laser has built-in cooling system for the pain to be minimal.
  3. How many laser treatments will I need? Usually 4 to 6 treatments will result in permanent hair removal, but some people may require up to 12 depending on the skin type and texture of hairs.
  4. What are your charges for laser hair removal? Charges vary depending on which body area you are getting treated. It can range from 3,000 PKR per session for just lips to 1,50,000 PKR for full body hair removal.
  5. Are laser hair removal temporary or permanent?
Most people experience hair removal that lasts several months, and it might last for years. But laser hair removal doesn't guarantee permanent hair removal. When hair regrows, it's usually finer and lighter in color. You might need maintenance laser treatments for long-term hair reduction.

Do you give 100% guarantee?

No doctor can give 100% guarantee that the treatment or surgery would be beneficial for the patient. For that matter, no guarantee is given by any doctor or surgeon that the patient would be "cured".

Anyone considering a cosmetic procedure should ensure they are informed enough to understand the limitations and risks of any procedure. Remember, no procedure is 100% risk free and no surgeon can give a 100% guarantee of the results.

The only assurance which a doctor can give or can be understood to have given by implication is that he is possessed of the requisite skill in that branch of profession which he is practicing and while undertaking the performance of the task entrusted to him he would be exercising his skill with reasonable competence.

Unless the circumstances are exceptional, it is advisable to avoid surgery if you have recently experienced major life events such as moving house, changing job, losing a loved one, the break-up of a relationship or the arrival of children. Undergoing cosmetic surgery results in emotional changes as well as physical ones, so it’s wise to choose a time when there aren’t other stressful events going on in your life.

How many sessions do I require?

The healthier your skin/hair are when starting out, the easier it will take the treatment. The sessions must be spaced to allow adequate healing in between. Skin/Hair that are healthy enough to regenerate fairly quickly will be able to endure more sessions of a treatment in a shorter period of time.

While these aren’t the only factors involved, they are the most common. Don’t be surprised, however, if your doctor mentions another situation that could impact the length and/or number of sessions you may require. Every person is different, and your circumstances will be unique only to YOU.
